A foot valve is invariably installed in any pump suction to maintain prime to enable the pump to start smoothly without overload caused by air pockets. In petroleum retail outlets also this was the practice earlier, but has been replaced by an angle check valve.
The suction line extends down to very near the u/g tank bottom and some muck/dirt gets invariably drawn with the product. When this dirt passes through the metering unit, resulting abrasion causes very fine scoring marks. Over a time, this results in excess delivery, and thus, losses. It also results in frequent breakdowns and reduces motor & pump life.
Tristar foot valves are available in 2 models – single poppet & double poppet. Size: 2” NB.
