Industrial Strainer

Basket Strainer

Strainers – Basket Strainer also known as Simplex Strainers/Oil filter.

Tristar make strainer are widely usede accross industries for effective filtration for suspended impurities or solid practicals from fluid such as oils, fuels, acids, solvents, water etc. These strainers oprerate on mechanical solid-liquid sepration technique, where Practically on energy is used.

Basket Simplex Strainers and Filters are normally used for batch operations where the liquid flow may be interrupted periodically for cleaning purpose or other maintenance. They are also known as Inline Simplex Strainers

Strainers ensure smooth flow of fluids, protect pumps, nozzles, valves, heat exchangers, control systems and other expensive pipeline equipment thereby ensuring long productive life of equipment. In the process increasing productivity by reducing maintenance and downtime. Simplex Basket Strainers provide higher filtration area as compared to “Y” type or “T” type strainers, hence the frequency of cleaning is reduced.

Application Tristar Basket Strainer can be used for filtering a wide variety of industrial fluids such as:

  • Fuel oils like Petrol, Diesel, ATF, Furnace Oil, LSHS etc

Tristar Strainers are available in two configurations.

1. Inwell Design with multiple elements

In this type of Strainer the fluid flows through the inlet into inwell chamber from where it enters the filter elements. For designs upto 100 NB we offer single basket element, 100NB to 200 NB two elements and for sizes above 200 three basket elements. As there are more number of elements the Gross filtration area is more compared to single basket element of same size.

2. Direct Element Design

In this design the fluid directly enters the basket and flows through the outlet. This is a much simpler design and also the pressure drop here is at its minimal. Tristar make strainers are ideal for use as line filters for pipelines of various sizes and process equipment’s with the following unique advantages:

Duplex Strainer or Filter

Duplex Strainers are normally used in continuous processes where the fluid flow cannot be interrupted periodically for cleaning purpose or other maintenance.

TRISTAR make Duplex Strainers and Filters are widely used across industries for effective filtration of suspended impurities or solid particles from fluids such as oils, fuels, acids, solvents, water etc. These strainers operate on mechanical solid-liquid separation technique, where practically no energy is used.

Strainers ensure smooth flow of fluids, protect pumps, nozzles, valves, heat exchangers, control systems and other expensive pipeline equipment thereby ensuring long productive life of equipment and in the process increasing productivity by reducing maintenance and downtime. Duplex Strainers provide uninterrupted flow and higher filtration area as compared to “Y” type, “T” type strainers and Simplex Basket Strainers.

A Duplex Strainer too has a rugged Carbon Steel Body, Davit arrangement for filter of higher capacities, for easy removal of the top cover as the cover cannot be manually removed as they are heavy and cumbersome to remove. Optional Features include Stainless Steel construction, as per ASME Codes, Higher Pressure and Temperature Design, fitting of Differential Pressure Gauge or electronic clogging indicator, steam jacket or electrical heating etc.

The Duplex filters involves either two Identical housings in parallel with three — way valve, or two Simplex Strainers with 4 individual isolation valves

These filters are suitable for continuous filtration. When one unit is opened for cleaning the second operates and vice a versa. These are custom built with our proprietary design as per client requirements.

3 way Valve design

Jacketed Strainers Filters

Jacketed strainers are used for applications where materials must be kept at higher temperatures to keep the Fluid in flowing condition. The strainer body temperature is maintained by circulating steam or thermic fluid through the strainer jacket. The strainer body is provided with a jacket which is welded to the strainer body as integral part. The jacket is insulated to minimize the heat loss to atmosphere.


Sanitary Filter

We design and manufacture sanitary filters to be used in Dairy, Food, Beverage, Cosmetic, Dairy, and Pharmaceutical Industries.

These filters are used where hygiene is of crucial importance. Sanitary design requires easy to open and clean the filter completely, there should no dead spots where material can accumulate over a period of time which may give rise to contamination.

Material of construction is SS 304 or SS 316. The gaskets provided are based on your application you can choose between PTFE or Silicon.These filters are available in inline or side entry / offline design, depending on your process piping you can choose the best for your application.

Our filters are buffed and passivated and are ready to use at site. Depending on the your requirement we can offer the finish.


Stainless Steel (SS) Filters

Stainless steel filters are used where rust or other contamination caused by mild steel cannot be tolerated. They are mainly used for sanitary applications.

We design and manufacture SS filters to suit your application. To design a filter we will require to know the flow rate, operating pressure, filtration size required in microns.

Material of construction is SS 304 or SS 316. The gaskets provided are based on your application you can choose between PTFE or Silicon.These filters are available in inline or side entry / offline design, depending on your process piping you can choose the best for your application.

Our filters are buffed and passivated and are ready to use at site. Depending on the your requirement we can offer the finish.


Magnetic Filters

Tristar magnetic filters are designed to capture ferrous particles in the utility or process line. These filters can be designed to use Low Intensity magnets of 2500 Gauss or High Intensity Magnets of 10,000 gauss . Along with the magnetic rods filter element of required micron size is provided for maximum filtration. These filters also known as Rust Capturing Filters.

The magnets are inserted in SS 304 or SS 316 tubes and are optimised for highest efficiency. Magnetic rods may contain hard ferrite ceramic magnets or high intensity rare earth magnets.

Low intensity magnetic rods are ideal for catching materials such as Nuts, Bolts, Screws, broken washers etc. these rods are designed to attract larger iron pieces from relatively larger distance.

High Intensity magnetic rods are capable of catching contamination particles as small as 1 microns.These rods have been designed to attract super fine particles from the carrier material.

Based on the flow rate and pressure the filter is designed to ensure all liquid passes through the magnets for optimum filtration.


Cooling Tower Filter

Almost all process cooling systems use water for the purpose of heat transfer.The water over a period of time accumulates dust, sand, pollen, algae, and pipe scale particles. In extreme cases, particle build-up clogs entire systems, requiring shutdowns, expensive maintenance, repair, or replacement. A build-up of solids inside piping can reduce heat transfer, drastically reducing efficiency and increasing energy consumption. Filters are used in the system to arrest the contamination and ensure the efficiency of the equipment’s is maintained.

Tristar manufactures filters which help capture these contaminants and ensure your equipment runs to maximum efficiency. Our cooling tower filters are custom built to suit flow rates and pressures of the system.


Y Type Strainers

Y-type strainers are installed on the pipelines to trap dirt, scale, foreign particles, welding debris etc which can cause damage to pumps, meters, valves or other inline equipment’s. “Y”Type strainers are called so because of their shape which looks like a “Y”. They can be installed in either position vertical or horizontal as long as the flow markings as mentioned on them are maintained.

These are used across industries in utility and process lines.

Tristar Y Type strainers are available in casting as well as fabricated to suit your application. Generally they are of Cast steel with SS304 Perforated sheet and filter element. Filter element can be provided as per your requirement.


T Type Strainers

“T” or “TEE” Type strainers are called so because of their shape which looks like an inverted “T”. They are compact in size and shape and are used in applications where not much space is available. They are cost effective alternative to inline basket filters in removing sand, dirt, pipe scale, grit, welding beads and other unwanted solids from industrial liquids, gases, water, and steam.

Standard material for the T strainer body and flanges is carbon steel with 304 stainless steel basket. Filtration element choice can be made as per the process requirements. We offer flanged opening or quick opening Eye bolt design.


Suction Diffusers

Tristar suction diffusers are installed at the inlet of the pump, they serve 2 main purposes .

  • To filter debris / foreign matter present in the liquid which may damage the pump over a period of time.
  • To ensure uniform flow to the pump suction. The stream straighteners inside the suction diffuser break the turbulence in water / liquid and stabilize it. Uniform flow ensures the pumps run efficiently and do not cavitate.

Tristar can build a filtration system based on the application requirements. We study your application and understand flow, pressure, pressure drop, level of filtration required. Based on the final output required we design the complete system. The system can comprise of Pumping system, automation , instrumentation as per your needs.
